The next gathering will likely be in early March- the weekend of the 9th/10th, let us know if you want to host!! If you want to stay connected to the St. John’s families on FB, please join our family group!
This Sunday is our annual Christmas Pageant! That means there will not be any Sunday School classes – all children who are NOT participating in the pageant should go to church for the 10:00 service. Arrive a little early for a good seat to see everything! The nursery will remain open for our youngest.
If your child would *like* to participate but has not been involved in rehearsals, you can still show up! We try to make it easy to jump in as a sheep or an angel. There’s a dress rehearsal on Saturday which you are welcome to attend, or you can just come and make yourself known on Sunday morning in Thaxter Hall. Kids will be arriving btw 9-9:15 to get into costume. Let me know if you have any questions: email@example.com
Teenagers and big kids – we need your help too! We need banner bearers to walk the big banners down the aisle and helpers with the night sky… Nathan and Lizzie are good contacts for those jobs 🙂
Our upcoming Sunday schedule will look as follows:
Dec 23 – Pageant (No classes, nursery open)
Dec 30 – No Children/Youth Programs (Nursery closed)
Jan 6 – Sunday School and Youth Groups resume at 9:30AM
A friendly reminder that our musical rehearsals will being on Sunday Jan 6th. This year we are doing Willy Wonka – performance will be Feb 16 & 17. If you’re interested in learning more about this, let me know!
On Sunday, December 2nd, we will welcome in a new season of Advent as a church community. This season of joyful preparation will offer some good opportunities for our children to build in their joy and community as well.
Below, you will find the December 2018 Children & Youth Schedule Overview. Looking for more dates? Visit the Program Schedule page.
After Youth Choir Rehearsal (4-5:30), we invite youth group members (6th and up + all junior choir members) to join us in the Philbrick Room for a festive costume party! Our group will attend the Portsmouth Parade at 7:00PM and we will provide transportation!
PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU WANT A RIDE HOME FOR YOUR CHILD/REN.
We will need a headcount to coordinate this – your response is appreciated. $10 per child.
An All-Ages Service to Celebrate World Communion & Diversity
This Sunday is part of Columbus Day weekend – a weekend in the fall we all look forward to because we get a day off from school, and a little breathing room after an action-packed September. However, most of us are a little confused about celebrating Mr. Columbus… it has become popular to re-name this day Indigenous Peoples Day. In light of this questioning and the global divisions we seek to make sense of on a daily basis, we wanted to use this holiday weekend in church to create a space for all of us to be drawn together.
Instead of our typical Church School and Youth Group, we will be offering an All-Ages Service, telling the story of The Good Shepherd and World Communion. Through this story we will be reminded of the diversity that we find here at St. John’s, in our community, our country, and our world. We will be reminded that in God’s eyes, we are part of one flock. Please join us for this service to hear the story of the Good Shepherd, a story which celebrates our differences and yet draws us together as one body in Christ.
