Updates for everyone!

Into the Woods
Youth cast of Into the Woods

(Nursery & PreK / K Class will remain open for young children!)

As per our normal tradition, our Sunday morning education programs take a February “break” on the Sunday sandwiched between ME and NH school vacation weeks, which is this Sunday, February 23. However, since the lovely students from the Choir School will be singing in church this weekend, we will offer Nursery childcare and a young children’s class with the fabulous Kendall Mood!

When we come back to rehearsals, both cherub and junior choirs will be preparing for our March 29th Youth Music Sunday!

  • Next Cherub Choir Rehearsal is Sunday, March 8 @ 11-11:30am
  • Next Junior Choir Rehearsal is Wednesday, March 4 @ 4-5:30pm
Cherub cast of Winnie the Pooh

Our annual Mardi-Gras themed parish-wide pancake dinner is Sunday, February 23 @ 5-7pm! Lots of yummy food, and a kid-friendly dining & play area downstairs! There’s no Sunday school in the morning, so come get a little church and sugar in the evening. Lent is coming… gotta eat that butter and flour while you still can.

Bishop Rob will be visiting St. John’s on May 10th, and will offer an opportunity for people to be confirmed, received, or to renew their baptismal vows at the 10am service. Nathan will be leading a class for high schoolers to talk about what confirmation is, what they believe, and whether they want to be confirmed. Classes will run on Sundays after church from 11:30am–12:30pm from March 1st – April 5th. Email Nathan with any questions or if you have a high schooler who’s interested.

Kids’ Annual Movie Morning

Tomorrow, all children & youth are invited to gather at 9am for our annual movie & snacks morning in the Philbrick room!

We will press “play” on the Incredibles at 9:00AM in the Philbrick Room. The run time is just under 2 hours at which point students will rejoin families in church.

Cherub choir participants will go straight to Winnie the Pooh rehearsal after the movie for their usual 11-11:30am time slot; junior rehearsal remains 11:30-1:30.

Children are welcome to join the fun at any point throughout the morning. There will be plenty of snacks, courtesy of St. John’s.

FOR ADULTS: 2020 Annual Meeting in church begins at 9am. Rite II service begins at 10:30.

December 15 Service Sunday

Service Sunday: Santa Edition 2019!

All middle and high school youth are invited to give back to bring some Christmas cheer to our community by participating in this month’s Service Sunday.

This Sunday, December 8th, we’ll be helping with Operation Blessing’s annual Christmas toy drive by sorting toys, decorating their space for the holidays, and pitching in however else we’re needed. Operation Blessing provides the opportunity for Seacoast families struggling financially to select toys for their children. It’s a massive effort, and seeks to help our neighbors in need.

We’ll meet at Thaxter Hall at 9:30am and return at 11:30am.

Operation Blessing could always use more wrapping paper, tape, and scissors to stock their wrapping tables if you’re willing to donate.

Don’t forget… our next Youth Wednesday to Serve & Celebrate is this week!

Service Sunday – Apple Edition

This Sunday is our Service Sunday for October, and we’re trying something new! It’ll be a Service Sunday in two parts. The High School and Middle School Youth Groups will meet in Thaxter Hall at 9:30am to go apple-picking. We’ll return to Thaxter Hall by 11:30am and are inviting anyone 3rd grade and up to help us make apple pies that we’ll send to Cross Roads (and maybe Gather if we make enough). Please join us!

Youth Mission Trip

Commit to Serve!

JUNE 23-29, 2019

Nathan and Ashley are eagerly awaiting commitments from members of the middle school and high school youth group for our MISSION TRIP!!! We cannot wait to serve with this crew and dive into deepening our spiritual connection with ourselves and each other.

We are hoping to collect a $75 deposit for each student by Sunday March 10. Its time to decide to make a difference in your life and in this world!

FAQ’s about the mission trip:

Where are we going?

Dunn, NC, a rural, agricultural community on the Coastal Plain of Eastern NC.

What are we doing?

Working with the Episcopal Farm Workers Ministry and the Trinity Center on the Outer Banks.

But what are we going to DO there?

We’ll do some farm work and some projects to support the community of farmworkers. We will hear stories from migrant workers and open up our hearts and minds to a greater human experience.

Who is going on the trip?

Definitely Ashley Wade and Nathan Bourne. We hope to bring a group of ten students – there are still several spots available!

What students are eligible to go?

All rising 7th-12th graders.

How much does it cost?

The ticket price per student is about $750, but we will be fundraising and assistance is available. As with all programs at St. John’s, money shouldn’t be a deciding factor for your family! Do know that each student will be responsible for helping with fundraising efforts for our group.

How are we getting there?

We’re taking the St. John’s van. It’s about a 14 hour drive and we’re planning on doing it in a day.

Where are we staying?

For the first five nights we’ll stay at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Clinton, NC. They’ve offered for us to take over a couple Sunday School rooms and their parish hall. Our last two nights we’ll be at The Trinity Center on the Outer Banks.

How do I sign up?

Email Nathan ( ASAP and bring in your $75 deposit on Sunday March 10th.
