(Nursery & PreK / K Class will remain open for young children!)
As per our normal tradition, our Sunday morning education programs take a February “break” on the Sunday sandwiched between ME and NH school vacation weeks, which is this Sunday, February 23. However, since the lovely students from the Choir School will be singing in church this weekend, we will offer Nursery childcare and a young children’s class with the fabulous Kendall Mood!
SJC YOUTH MUSIC ON TWO-WEEK HIATUS
When we come back to rehearsals, both cherub and junior choirs will be preparing for our March 29th Youth Music Sunday!

SHROVE SUNDAY PANCAKE DINNER
Our annual Mardi-Gras themed parish-wide pancake dinner is Sunday, February 23 @ 5-7pm! Lots of yummy food, and a kid-friendly dining & play area downstairs! There’s no Sunday school in the morning, so come get a little church and sugar in the evening. Lent is coming… gotta eat that butter and flour while you still can.
HIGH SCHOOL CONFIRMATION CLASS
Bishop Rob will be visiting St. John’s on May 10th, and will offer an opportunity for people to be confirmed, received, or to renew their baptismal vows at the 10am service. Nathan will be leading a class for high schoolers to talk about what confirmation is, what they believe, and whether they want to be confirmed. Classes will run on Sundays after church from 11:30am–12:30pm from March 1st – April 5th. Email Nathan with any questions or if you have a high schooler who’s interested.
WHAT TO DO: Draw a scene depicting a part of the Christmas story… in the past this has been the creche scene, the holy family around the manger, and the three wise men following the star. There are many scenes that could work for the cover!
WHO CAN SUBMIT A DRAWING: Any child or youth in the St. John’s Program.
DUE BY: Sunday, December 15th
OTHER DETAILS: Colorful drawings encouraged! All ages and skill levels encouraged to participate! Use this as a way to chat about the advent and Christmas stories at home while students draft their drawings. PLEASE HAVE STUDENTS SIGN THEIR WORK!
This Sunday, Dec 15th, is our annual Lessons & Carols service at 5:30 PM.

ST. JOHN’S FAMILY NIGHTS
Young families are invited to hang out together, share food and drink, and watch the children entertain eachother. It has become a highlight for we parents who need to remember to laugh together and bask in the love and light of our children… while sipping a glass of wine with other adults! Low-pressure, come as you are, and do family night right. If you’ve never made it, this is the year! Stay tuned for dates and info!
All St. John’s Youth are invited for an afternoon of service, song, and fellowship starting at 3:00pm. Here’s the schedule for tomorrow:
3:00pm – Cooking for Cross Roads – we’ll prepare a meal to send to the Cross Roads shelter. 4:00pm – Youth Choirs rehearse – youth singers will practice for an hour while others finish preparing the meal. 5:00pm – Dinner 5:30pm – 6:00pm – pick-up
All are welcome to join when they can for as long as they can.
This Sunday is our annual Christmas Pageant! That means there will not be any Sunday School classes – all children who are NOT participating in the pageant should go to church for the 10:00 service. Arrive a little early for a good seat to see everything! The nursery will remain open for our youngest.
If your child would *like* to participate but has not been involved in rehearsals, you can still show up! We try to make it easy to jump in as a sheep or an angel. There’s a dress rehearsal on Saturday which you are welcome to attend, or you can just come and make yourself known on Sunday morning in Thaxter Hall. Kids will be arriving btw 9-9:15 to get into costume. Let me know if you have any questions: firstname.lastname@example.org
Teenagers and big kids – we need your help too! We need banner bearers to walk the big banners down the aisle and helpers with the night sky… Nathan and Lizzie are good contacts for those jobs 🙂
Our upcoming Sunday schedule will look as follows:
Dec 23 – Pageant (No classes, nursery open)
Dec 30 – No Children/Youth Programs (Nursery closed)
Jan 6 – Sunday School and Youth Groups resume at 9:30AM
A friendly reminder that our musical rehearsals will being on Sunday Jan 6th. This year we are doing Willy Wonka – performance will be Feb 16 & 17. If you’re interested in learning more about this, let me know!
After Youth Choir Rehearsal (4-5:30), we invite youth group members (6th and up + all junior choir members) to join us in the Philbrick Room for a festive costume party! Our group will attend the Portsmouth Parade at 7:00PM and we will provide transportation!
PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU WANT A RIDE HOME FOR YOUR CHILD/REN.
We will need a headcount to coordinate this – your response is appreciated. $10 per child.
