(Nursery & PreK / K Class will remain open for young children!)
As per our normal tradition, our Sunday morning education programs take a February “break” on the Sunday sandwiched between ME and NH school vacation weeks, which is this Sunday, February 23. However, since the lovely students from the Choir School will be singing in church this weekend, we will offer Nursery childcare and a young children’s class with the fabulous Kendall Mood!
SJC YOUTH MUSIC ON TWO-WEEK HIATUS
When we come back to rehearsals, both cherub and junior choirs will be preparing for our March 29th Youth Music Sunday!
Next Cherub Choir Rehearsal is Sunday, March 8 @ 11-11:30am
Next Junior Choir Rehearsal is Wednesday, March 4 @ 4-5:30pm
SHROVE SUNDAY PANCAKE DINNER
Our annual Mardi-Gras themed parish-wide pancake dinner is Sunday, February 23 @ 5-7pm! Lots of yummy food, and a kid-friendly dining & play area downstairs! There’s no Sunday school in the morning, so come get a little church and sugar in the evening. Lent is coming… gotta eat that butter and flour while you still can.
HIGH SCHOOL CONFIRMATION CLASS
Bishop Rob will be visiting St. John’s on May 10th, and will offer an opportunity for people to be confirmed, received, or to renew their baptismal vows at the 10am service. Nathan will be leading a class for high schoolers to talk about what confirmation is, what they believe, and whether they want to be confirmed. Classes will run on Sundays after church from 11:30am–12:30pm from March 1st – April 5th. Email Nathan with any questions or if you have a high schooler who’s interested.
This Sunday, Dec 15th, is our annual Lessons & Carols service at 5:30 PM.
For the first time we are hosting a complimentary Kids’ Pizza Party, including free play and art space on the lower level of Thaxter Hall. If your children will come for the pizza and fun, please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org
Kids’ space will be open at 5PM. Pizza will be served around 5:30.
All middle and high school youth are invited to give back to bring some Christmas cheer to our community by participating in this month’s Service Sunday.
This Sunday, December 8th, we’ll be helping with Operation Blessing’s annual Christmas toy drive by sorting toys, decorating their space for the holidays, and pitching in however else we’re needed. Operation Blessing provides the opportunity for Seacoast families struggling financially to select toys for their children. It’s a massive effort, and seeks to help our neighbors in need.
We’ll meet at Thaxter Hall at 9:30am and return at 11:30am.
Operation Blessing could always use more wrapping paper, tape, and scissors to stock their wrapping tables if you’re willing to donate.
This Sunday is our Service Sunday for October, and we’re trying something new! It’ll be a Service Sunday in two parts. The High School and Middle School Youth Groups will meet in Thaxter Hall at 9:30am to go apple-picking. We’ll return to Thaxter Hall by 11:30am and are inviting anyone 3rd grade and up to help us make apple pies that we’ll send to Cross Roads (and maybe Gather if we make enough). Please join us!
Families are invited to hang out together, share food and drink, and watch the children entertain each other. It has become a highlight for parents who need to remember to laugh together and bask in the love and light of our children… while sipping a glass of wine with other adults!
Join us on the 26th at the Haight’s home in Greenland for our first family night of the season. Bring your favorite cider, chili, cornbread, pumpkin beverage, or apple crisp. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate and it will be nice enough for a fire. Plan on bringing warm “fire clothes” if you want to relax outside. Email email@example.com for questions or details!
Our next SJC Youth Wednesday is this week! All of our Middle Schoolers, High Schoolers, and Youth Music & Theater participants are invited to come cook for the Cross Roads community, sing & play with the music crew, and have dinner together. Our evening schedule looks like this:
If you’re like me, there are seasons when you’re all about that banjo and fiddle, and other days when you can’t get enough synth bass drops. The soundtrack of our lives is representative of who we are and how we vibrate through the world. As we grow in our community with each other, our church song repertoire has also been evolving. Many songs have begun to follow us through the years, and this list is largely a reflection of that. Some might be new to you, and some maybe you’ve only heard performed at the front of the church.
St. John’s Parish Songbook, First Edition(to be premiered at the 2019 Parish Retreat!!)
Let’s be clear about one thing — MUSIC IS FOR EVERYONE. Our community is pretty full of great singing and playing. But aside from performing, singing is good for the soul – and scientifically proven to be good for the brain & body, too! Music connects us to each other and God. Everyone’s voice matters and has a place. This songbook will now be a living document to catalog our journey through song, and the hope is everyone will further connect to this soundtrack and continue to tend its growth over time.
Big shouts to the people who contributed to getting this off the ground – especially Olin Johannessen, Allison Dudas, Lila Pellatt, Rob Stevens, Anne Williamson, and Nathan Bourne.
